Team Managers Profile Peter Senior
Peter Senior lives in Doncaster with his wife Eileen where he also owns a Furniture Shop. At the age of 15 he started playing darts at his local youth club because he was no good at table tennis. By the age of 18 he was playing in several of the local top sides, however playing alongside many of the then top players he soon realised that he was never going to be one of them so he decided to into team management. He ran the first superleague in Doncaster in 1973. He joined Yorkshire committee in 1976. He was assistant team manager to John Gowan in 1990 to 1992 and then took over as Manager in the 1992/3 season and won the ‘A’team championship in his first season. Since then under Peters management Yorkshire have won the ‘B’ team 11 times and of the 13 times that we have won the ‘A’ team, 9 of them have been under Pete’s management. He also runs the top Yorkshire superleague team and in addition to dominating Yorkshire’s premier league, his teams have also won the British Champions Cup 7 times. In addition to Team manager, Peter also took on the role of Yorkshire chairman last year following the retirement of Pete Convey and is now also on the England selection committee. Pete say’s his high point in darts has been having 5 Yorkshire players in the England team. As far as a low point is concerned he says he can not think of any. When I asked for a personal comment, he firstly said that his biggest influence in all of his success has been his wife Eileen who has supported and encouraged him in everything he has done within the sport. He then said, “It seems that money is starting to influence players moving around and that it seems unfair that richer counties can be in a position to temp players and feels that it will eventually cripple the game” he also strongly believes that no player should be allowed to play in more than one superleague team. My comments on Peter are that he is probably the most successful team manager ever, people may not always agree with how he does things, but I think his results speak for themselves. He is truly dedicated to the sport of darts and passionate about Yorkshire.
