Pat is a 56 year old retired teacher from Doncaster. She has 2 children, Ian and Sara. Pat started playing darts at the age of 27 when she went to watch a friend and got roped into playing and she has never stopped since. She joined her first superleague team at the age of 28 and was top in the averages after her first season so was invited to play for Yorkshire in 1980. She played her first Yorkshire game when she was 7 months pregnant with Sara and got Lady of the match, she was immediately promoted to the ‘A’ team for her second game and repeated her Lady of the match performance.
Pat has had many high point in darts, but one’s that spring to mind are, both her and Sara playing in the ‘B’ team, Mother and Daughter both representing Yorkshire at the same time. Another high was in 1985 when playing against Lancashire, Pat beat Pat Connaughton who was an England player which gave Yorkshire the point it needed for them to be Ladies ‘A’ team champions.
Her low point was losing her Yorkshire place and being dropped from the squad.
Her ambition now is to play in the Yorkshire ‘A’ team with daughter Sara.
When I asked her for a personal comment about darts, she said “After playing with Yorkshire for 28 years, I still have friends in all counties, even though I sometimes haven’t seen them for several years due to promotion and demotion, which shows the comradeship within the sport”.
Pat was also ran the Youth team for 8 years and say’s she is extremely proud of all of her youth players that have now gone on to represent there counties at senior level.
My comments on Pat are that over the years she has been a great Yorkshire asset and am sure will continue to be not only as a player but also as a mentor for many of the players we see today who started there darting careers in Pat’s Youth teams.
