Player Profile
Nicky Deakin

Nicky is 26 years old, she’s single and lives in Barnsley with ‘R Mam’ and is currently unemployed. She throws 26grm Eric Bristow darts. She got into darts by playing with her brother (R Shayne) who used to be a Yorkshire youth player, she also joined the Youth but never got a game as she was too young.  At the age of 15 she joined her first league playing on a doubles board along side her uncle John whom she refers to as ‘R monkey’  he was also the person who started taking her to Bradford darts competitions where she realised that she was actually a quite good player and joined the local men’s superleague team. In 2008 she was asked to join the ladies superleague and was immediately put into the Yorkshire squad where she initially played 3 games in the ‘B’ team and was then promoted to the ‘A’ team.
So far her high point in darts has been her YDO selection and winning the 2009 Lincolnshire Open.
Her low point was losing at Glamorgan on her A team debut.
Her ambition is to play for England, also to play in a televised game and to play and beat Trina Gulliver.
When asked for a comment on darts she said she loves darts but feels that the women’s game needs more recognition. The darts scene is a very sociable environment and she has made many friends, It’s like a second family.
My comments on Nicky are that we have definitely not seen that best of her yet, in only her first season of playing ladies darts she has not only secured her ‘A’ team place but also won a major open competition. She is a true Yorkshire lass with an accent and personality big enough to match her darting ability.  Watch this space.
