Jamie is 36 years old, single and lives in Huddersfield where he works as a Roofer. He started playing darts at 13 at home with his mum and dad and also at the 4 horseshoes pub. His mum (Kath) used to play for Yorkshire, so had all the right contacts to get Jamie into the county youth team which he joined at the age of 15. He stopped playing darts at 17 and only started playing again in 2006. After his first season in superleague, he got his call-up for Yorkshire at the beginning of this season and was selected to play in the first match (Cornwall away) which he lost. Since then he has played excellent and in February was selected to play in the ‘A’ team.
His high point in darts so far has been his Yorkshire selection and also just missing out on Lakeside qualification.
He says his low point in darts was stopping playing for 15 years, in hindsight he feels he has missed out on opportunities.
His ambition is to play for England and also become World Champion.
When I asked Jamie for a personnel comment he said, “I don’t really have one, ‘cos everything has just happened so quickly but I would like to mention Ray Batty who was an inspiration to me when I was younger. I’d also like to say ‘beware’ to the coach artist, I’ll get my revenge”
My comments on Jamie are that from the darting talent I have witnessed in his first county season, I am sure he will be able to achieve his ambitions if he sticks with it. Also I did feel sorry for you Jamie when you walked into the service station on the way home from you first county weekend with ‘I am a t**t’ written on your forehead.
