Player profile: David Howells

Dave who is better known as Taffy, is a 46 year old divorcee living in Liversedge but originally from Wales. He has 14 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 ex wives.  He works as a Class 2 Driver.
He started playing darts in 1977 at the age of 16 when he stopped playing pool due to not being able to afford the 20p a game, so took up darts instead. He currently plays county, superleague and local league. His county career started with Glamorgan in 1980 until 1986 when he moved up to Yorkshire. He Played his first game for Yorkshire in 2004 though he had previously been in the squad but never got a game.
His high point in darts was in 2000 when he beat John Walton in the singles final of the Super Six league.  His low point was never getting picked to play for Yorkshire the first time he was selected for the squad.   His ambition is just to continue playing  county and local darts and to keep on enjoying it. When I asked for a personal comment on the game he said ‘no comments what so ever, I’ll keep my mouth shut so no one gets upset’
My comments on Taffy are that he is an extremely talented player but also probably one of the biggest wind-up merchants I have ever met and can be extremely annoying at times, but he has a heart of gold and will help anyone, even to the point of dropping himself from a county match to allow a player who had been ill to get back in.
