Player Profile
Chris Gill
Chris who is 44 years old is married to Julie and has 2 children; Adam aged 12 and Caitlin who is 14. He lives in Barnsley and he is a self employed tiler.
He started playing darts as a child at home and joined his first team at the age of 17 playing on a doubles board. He got his YDO call-up in 1999. Although Chris has previously played 14 games in the ‘A’ team, he currently plays in the ‘B’ team because Adam plays football on a Sunday therefore Chris is unavailable on Sundays. He also plays local league and superleague, but doesn’t do any of the competition circuit.
His high points in darts are his County selection, having an 100% winning record against Denis Priestley and once winning the Rizla award with a 37.06 average. He states his low point as the time that Yorkshire lost the league to Essex by just one point.
His ambition is just to keep on playing and see what happens in the future and maybe one day play for England.
When I asked him for a comment on darts, he said “It’s nice to see the game getting more recognition and therefore now getting more interest from youngsters which can only help to revitalise darts”
My comments on Chris are that he is an extremely talented player, who is totally committed to his family, but I am sure that should his circumstances ever change he will definitely play for England as he is such a natural player.
